Marcus Mosiah Garvey
17 August 1887 - 10 June 1940
A Political Leader, Black Nationalist, A Journalist, An Orator, An
Entrepreneur. He founded "The Universal Negro Improvement Association
(U.N.I.A)," along with the auxiliary
bodies of "The Universal Black Cross Nurses." "The Universal African
Legion." "The Universal African Motor Crops." "The Universal Negro
Improvement Association Choir." "The Universal Negro Improvement
Association Historical Society." " The Universal Negro Improvement
Association And African Communities Leagues Charitable Trust."
"One God! One Aim! One Destiny!" An Organization with nearly 1000
branches and millions of followers. The U.N.I.A was a social, friendly,
humanitarian, charitable, educational, institutional, constructive,
spiritually governing ruling body, founded by persons desiring to the
utmost, to work for the general uplift of the Negro peoples of the
world.
The U.N.I.A Flag, also known as the Pan African Flag, Black Liberation Flag was created by members of the U.N.I.A.
The First Black Shipping Company
"The Black Star Line Incorporated," was a shipping company founded by
Marcus Garvey in Delaware on June 23, 1919, To Charter Blacks back to
Africa, and to promote worldwide commence among Black Business and
Communities. In 1924 he started another maritime entity, "The Black
Cross Navigation and Trading Company."
Marcus Garvey was also
the Creator of the successful weekly newspaper, "The Negro World."
Highly influential, "The Negro World," banned in many parts of Africa
and Caribbean. "The Negro World," preached Marcus Garvey philosophies,
consciousness, self help, and economic independence. He also, had a
monthly magazine entitled, "The Black Man."
